The BLET held an inaugural meeting for its newest members at the Austin Western Railroad on March 21, less than a month after securing an organizing win at the Texas-based short line railroad. National Vice President James Logan Jr., BLET’s Director of Organizing, and Luke Myers, BLET’s Head of the Short Line Department, traveled to Cedar Park, Texas, a suburb of Austin, to meet with workers and discuss what should be negotiated as part of their first contract as well as to collect BLET membership application forms.
“We walked them through the negotiating process under the Railway Labor Act and heard their thoughts on what they would like to achieve in their first contract,” Vice President Logan said. “It was a productive meeting and we look forward to getting down to business at the bargaining table.”
