BLET members, families, and guests from across Ohio participated in this year’s Labor Day parade in Toledo.
Locomotive engineers from throughout Ohio, along with their families, proudly represented the BLET at the annual Labor Day Parade in Toledo, Ohio, on Monday, September 7. The delegation consisted primarily of BLET members from Division 4 (Toledo, Ohio) and Divisions 34 and 894 (Columbus, Ohio). State Representative Michele Grim (District 43) was a special guest who marched with the BLET group. The Toledo parade is one of the largest in the Midwest.
“Representative Grim is a long-time friend of the BLET who has been instrumental in helping advance our rail safety agenda in recent years,” said John Esterly, Chairman of the BLET’s Ohio State Legislative Board, who also marched in the parade.
America’s first Labor Day holiday was celebrated on Tuesday, September 5, 1882, in New York City. Labor Day honors the social and economic achievements of American workers. It is also an annual national tribute to the contributions workers have made to our nation’s strength, prosperity, and well-being. Organized labor, through its membership, has consistently contributed substantially to creating the highest standard of living and the highest levels of worker production the world has ever known.
