Ballots were mailed last week to BLET members for voting on a tentative agreement with the South Buffalo Railway Company (SBRR).

If ratified by the members, the tentative contract would provide significant economic and quality-of-life enhancements. The TA governs rates of pay, benefits, working conditions, seniority rights, and employee protections for locomotive engineers.

The SBRR membership belongs to Division 16, the BLET’s short line division. The negotiating team consisted of National Vice President James Logan Jr. and Division 16 Grievance Chairman T.L. Flickinger. The South Buffalo Railway operates over 50 miles of track along the southeast shore of Lake Erie. Owned by Genesee & Wyoming (G&W), SBRR today is operated by G&W regional affiliate Buffalo & Pittsburgh Railroad.

Note to SBRR members: Ballots were mailed on June 29 and will be tabulated on July 21. Members who are eligible to vote and have not received a ratification packet by July 13 should call the National Division’s dedicated voicemail line at (216) 241-2630, ext. 222. When connected with the voicemail, please leave the following information:

  • Your name, address and phone number;
  • The division to which you belong;
  • The railroad you work for;
  • Your date of birth;
  • The last four digits of your Social Security number; and
  • Your email address.

All replacement ballots will be distributed by email. Any member who requires a replacement ballot must include their email address in the voicemail; otherwise, they will not be able to participate in the ratification vote.
