On August 24, the Stop the Rail Merger Coalition wrote a letter to President Trump outlining why it opposes the proposed Union Pacific-Norfolk Southern merger.
The letter warns that the merger would reduce railroad competition, raise costs for American farmers, manufacturers and consumers, threaten railroad jobs, and put critical supply chains at risk.
As the coalition wrote to President Trump: “This outcome runs contrary to your administration’s economic agenda, and we do not believe it serves the American people who support your administration’s goals.”
The coalition represents a broad cross-section of the American economy, including organizations representing a majority of railroad shippers and affected railroad workers across the country.
